If you write for God you will reach many men and bring them joy. If you write for men you may make some money and you may give someone a little joy and you may make a noise in the world, for a little while. If you write only for yourself you can read what you yourself have written and after ten minutes you will be so disgusted you will wish that you were dead.

5.6k Saturn Cassini Photographic Animation from stephen v2 on Vimeo. The video is accompanied by Barber‘s Adagio for Stings

    Dear Alert Reader,

This is required viewing for everyone on the planet. It must be viewed on the largest monitor you have, in full-screen HD, and in a dark room if you (1) are sick of hearing about how everyone hates Muslims; (2) are overwhelmed by the scale of Japan’s problems, nuclear and otherwise; (3) are burned out by the stresses, disappointments, and confusions of everyday life; and/or (4) are a live human being.

There is no 3D CGI going on here; this is (with only a couple of caveats) simply Cassini‘s view from its recent flybys of Saturn (tbsp) and its rings and moons. The video has been brought to us by the good folks at NASA/JPL/ESA, and we at psnt.net cannot think of a more sterling example of our tax dollars (and those of our European friends) at work.

Please watch and watch again, and share it with everyone you know. And, for the love of all that is good and just in this world, when it is released to an IMAX screen near you, please go see it and take your kids (or your neighbors’ kids or any other random child you can wrangle).

See the APOD explanation of the video here, and more details about its contents and construction here.
